How to unlock your phone free with Tracfone / Straight Talk

If your phone qualifies, Tracfone / Straight Talk may unlock it for you at no cost. Ask them first. This guide explains the usual rules and steps in plain English. Rules change, so check your carrier's current policy on the official page.

Who usually qualifies

• The phone is fully paid off (no remaining device balance or lease).
• The account is in good standing.
• The phone has not been reported lost or stolen.
• The phone has been active on the network for a minimum period. Check your carrier's current policy for the exact time.

• Tracfone / Straight Talk is a prepaid carrier. Prepaid carriers usually ask that the phone has been active on their network for a set time before they unlock it.
• Tracfone also runs brands such as Straight Talk. Use the unlock page of the brand you bought the phone from.

Steps

1. Find your IMEI: dial *#06# on the phone, or look in Settings under About phone.
2. Check the list above. If anything is not met yet (for example a remaining balance), sort that out first.
3. Open the Tracfone / Straight Talk official unlock page (link below), or call or chat with Tracfone / Straight Talk support and ask for a device unlock.
4. Give them the IMEI and your account details. Write down any request or ticket number.
5. Wait for Tracfone / Straight Talk to confirm. Then put in a SIM card from another carrier and restart the phone.
6. If the phone still asks for a code or says the SIM is not supported, contact the carrier with your ticket number.

When a paid unlock makes sense

Only if the free route does not work for you, for example:

• The carrier says the phone does not qualify yet.
• You bought the phone second hand and cannot reach the original account holder.
• You asked, but the carrier has not acted on your request.
