What you actually pay

Ask your carrier first

Carrier unlock is usually free if you qualify. Most carriers want the phone paid off, the account in good standing, and the phone active for a while. Check your carrier's current policy.

When paying makes sense

  • Your carrier will not do it or does not answer.
  • You already left the carrier and cannot reach the account.
  • You bought the phone used and the old owner is gone.
  • You want someone to handle it and tell you what is happening.

You see the all-in price first. No unlock, full refund.

Hi, I'm Peter

I have fixed phones on the bench for 10 years. I built untethr because people kept asking me the same thing: can my phone work on another network? Most of the time the honest answer is "ask your carrier first, it is often free". When that does not work, I help you do it the legal way.

If something goes wrong, you talk to a person, not a form. And if the unlock does not happen, you get your money back.

To use a local SIM abroad, your phone has to be unlocked first. Ask your carrier before you fly. If they cannot or will not do it, we can, and you see the price and delivery time before you pay.

Questions people ask

What is a carrier unlock?

A carrier unlock removes the software lock that ties your phone to one mobile network. After it, the phone accepts SIM cards from other carriers.

Is it legal?

Unlocking a phone you own is legal in the US. Carriers set their own rules for when they will unlock, so check your carrier's current policy. We only work on phones that were not reported lost or stolen.

How long does it take?

It depends on the carrier and model. We show the delivery time before you pay, and you can follow your order live on the track page.

What if the unlock fails?

You get a full refund. If the unlock is rejected or not delivered within the stated time, we refund the order. See the refund policy for details.

Why do you check my IMEI first?

The IMEI tells us the model, the carrier and whether the phone is blacklisted. Checking first stops you paying for an unlock that cannot work. The basic check is free.

Do you unlock lost or stolen phones?

No. We refuse lost, stolen or blacklisted devices. By ordering you confirm that you own the phone.
